Provides workshops, special events, and support services to foster youth, ages 16 to 21, to <br />help them prepare for emancipation. <br />• Held 133 ILP workshops. <br />• Almost 12,000 hours of instruction were provided to over 680 teens. <br />Independent Living Coaches <br />Provides one-on-one guidance to foster youth needing extra support pre- and post - <br />emancipation, beginning at age 16 and up to age 21. <br />• Provided almost 4,500 hours of assistance to a total caseload of 232 youth. <br />• Provided 219 additional youth with information and referrals. <br />Mentor Program <br />Developed to provide one-on-one adult interaction for the increasing number of foster <br />care youth in our programs. Mentors support and encourage youth of all ages, from <br />kindergarten through college and beyond, especially as they transition out of the foster <br />care system into a life on their own. <br />• Have 158 mentors. <br />• Held 27 training sessions. <br />M-Power (ages 5-14) <br />This program was created in March, 2007, to expose foster children to experiences with a <br />healthy adult, allowing the child to begin seeing life's possibilities at an earlier age. <br />• Matched 10 children with mentors. <br />Bridges to Higher Education (high school students) <br />This program was created to increase awareness of higher educational opportunities for <br />foster youth. High school aged foster youth are matched with educational mentors and <br />participate in a variety of activities to stimulate their interest in higher education and to <br />increase graduation rates from high school. <br />• Held 4 workshops and outings for 28 youth and mentors. <br />• Helped 9 foster youth enrolled in the program graduate from high school. <br />• Increased program enrollment to 64 Orange County youth. <br />Transitions (ages 16-25) <br />This program was created to provide youth, many of whom already receive some form of <br />Orangewood services, with a mentor who will provide extra support and advice about <br />daily living, educational opportunities and career planning. <br />• Matched 36 youth with mentors. <br />California Youth Connection <br />A statewide organization led by current and former foster youth between the ages of 14- <br />24 who participate in policy development and legislative change to improve the foster <br />care system. Orangewood funds Orange County's CYC chapter. <br />• The chapter's 24 members held 11 local meetings and attended 4 statewide events. <br />Time Out for Parents <br />Coordinates short term, temporary care for children in foster care so that their foster <br />parents can take a break and recharge the energy necessary to care for them. <br />OCF/Foster Youth Liaison Project 11 <br />
