The project's principal objective is to install approximately 5.500 <br />weather-based Irrigation controllers in residential and small commercial landscapes <br />throughout Metropolitan's service area (excludIng Orange County). <br /> <br />It is anUcipated that weather-based Irrigation controllers will save water by changing <br />Irrigation Schedule$ more frequently and accurately than traditfonal controllers. which need <br />to be manually adjusted by end-users. Projected potential weter savings for this program <br />are about 27,500 AF over the estimated 1 a-year useful lifetime of these devices. <br /> <br />MWD is the Principal Applicant for this program and will act as Program Administrator, <br />distributing Incentives reglonaUy to participating customers through its member agencies. <br />MWD wllJ also work In collaboration with East Bay MunIcipal Utlllty District (EBMUD), <br />whose proposal has also been funded. The MWDlEBMUO partnership will beneflt aU <br />parties with program cost economies, management efficiencies. negotiating and <br />purchasing strength, unlfonn data tracking system. and universal marketing. <br /> <br />TWo prima/}' program implementation methods will be used: <br /> <br />1. Self-Install by the end user, coupled with training and a voucher/rebate; and <br /> <br />2. Direct-Install by member agency staff and/or an Independent. quallfled <br />Installation crew. <br /> <br />Other variations on these tv.iQ'methods may evolve, depending on local situations and the <br />resourcas of participating agencies Implementing this program. <br /> <br />Project Objectives and Dellverablas <br /> <br />Project goals and objectives include: <br /> <br />· Installation of up to 5,514 weathe....based irrigation controllers at residential and <br />small commercial, Industrial and Institutional landscapes In Southem Califomia. <br />Marl<et response wlU determine the actual number and dlstrlbutlon of commerciaI' <br />and residential controllers. <br /> <br />.
