<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />OCTOBER 6, 2008 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />D As Recommended <br />D As Amended <br />D Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />D Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />D Implementing Resolution <br />D Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER TO THE <br />SANTA ANA WORKFORCE INVESTMENT <br />BOARD <br /> <br />Ck <br /> <br />12J; }t2~ <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Appoint Ms. Maryann Conway, Rehabilitation Supervisor, State Department <br />of Rehabilitation, as a public sector member on the Santa Ana Workforce <br />Investment Board. <br /> <br />WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />At its regular meeting of September 12, 2008, by a vote of 21:0 (Blank, <br />Chen-Lee, Claudio, Didion, Korthuis, Lacroix, Lin, Pina, Ward absent), <br />the Workforce Investment Board recommended that the City Council appoint <br />Ms. Maryann Conway, Rehabilitation Supervisor, State Department of <br />Rehabi1i tation, as a public sector member on the Santa Ana Workforce <br />Investment Board. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br />establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br />members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a majority of the <br />Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private sector. The <br />remaining Board members represent education, non-profit organizations, <br />one-stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br /> <br />Currently there are two public sector vacancies on the Board due to the <br />recent resignations of Mr. Jack Oakes, Executive Director, Career <br />Development/ROP, Santa Ana Unified School District and Wil Ortega, <br />Rehabilitation Supervisor, State Department of Rehabilitation (DOR). Ms. <br />Conway will be replacing Mr. Ortega as the DOR representative. Ms. <br />Conway's resume, nomination letter and membership profile are attached <br />(Exhibit 1). <br /> <br />138-1 <br />
