Should the Contractor shear hedge or severely <br />prune plants and disfigure or damage the plants, the Contractor <br />shall be responsible to replace those plants with like kind and size <br />as determined by the Director. The Contractor maybe requested <br />from time to time to raise the bottom of the shrubs for security <br />reasons. This shall be considered routine maintenance and <br />therefore have no extra cost to the City. <br />2) Fertilization <br />a. Afl shrubs will be fertilized eight (8) times per year per the Valley <br />Crest Landscape Management "Agronomic Plan 2008" (see <br />attached} . The rate of application shall be one (2) pound of actual <br />nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. The Director may request proof of <br />fertilizer application in the form of empty fertilizer bags. Irrigation <br />b. All shrubs shall be properly irrigated to maintain a healthy condition. <br />Failure of any portion of the irrigation system will not relieve the <br />Contractor if the responsibility to provide appropriate supplemental <br />irrigation. The Contractor shall relieve stress by semi-automatically <br />or manually running the irrigation systems. <br />3) Replanting <br />a. The contractor shall be responsible for the complete removal and <br />replacement of shrubs lost due to the Contractor's negligence, as <br />de#ermined by the Director. <br />D. TREE CARE <br />~) The Contractor shall routinely maintain all tees up to a height of <br />fifteen (15) feet in height. <br />a. All trees within the scope of work shall be maintained to keep the <br />natural integrity and shapes of the trees. This work shall be <br />accomplished in a manner, which will ensure that each individual <br />tree is Clash I pruned (as outlined in the City of Santa Ana Tree <br />Pruning and Stump Removal Specifications. All work shall be of <br />the highest quality as outlined in Exhibit B). In addition, the <br />Contractor shall remove or prevent encroachment where it blocks <br />vision or is considered undesirable by the Director. Low branches <br />overhanging sidewalks shall be removed to a height of nine (9) feet <br />above grade. Young trees needing pruning, training, and shaping <br />to develop caliper and a strong structural framework shall allow low <br />branching laterals and or appropriate sucker growth to remain on a <br />continuing basis as needed according to the Director. <br />25H-28 <br />
