REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />OCTOBER 6, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />ACCEPTING THE NEXT GENERATION <br />2008 CLICK-IT OR TICKET GRANT <br />AWARD <br />~ ,~G-.~ <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1S` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting the 2009 Next Generation <br />Click-It or Ticket Grant award in the amount of $34,389 into the revenue <br />account (no. 165-01-5360-2) and appropriate same into the 2009 Next <br />Generation Click-It or Ticket Grant Overtime expenditure account (no. 165- <br />348-6141). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Santa Ana Police Department has been awarded a $34,389 grant from the <br />UC Berkeley Traffic Safety Center (TSC) for the 2009 Next Generation Click- <br />It or Ticket Grant Program. TSC is under contract with the California <br />Office of Traffic Safety to administer this grant. This grant funding will <br />allow the Police Department's Traffic Division to enforce seat belt use on <br />an overtime basis. The goal of the project is to increase seat belt use <br />statewide to 95o by May 31, 2009. This program combines efforts of state <br />and local law enforcement by conducting two well publicized seat belt <br />enforcement mobilization periods, November 17-30, 2008, and May 18-31, <br />2009. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Approval of the appropriation adjustment will enhance the 2009 Next <br />Generation, Click-It or Ticket Grant Program revenue account (no. 165-01- <br />5360-2) by $34,389 and increase the same into the overtime expenditure <br />account (no. 165-348-6141). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br />aul M.
