REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />NOVEMBER 17, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />ACCEPTING LIBRARY SERVICES <br />AND TECHNOLOGY ACT CIRCLE <br />OF MENTORING~ROJECT FUNDS <br />CI Y MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting Federal Library Services <br />and Technology Act (LSTA) funds for the Circle of Mentoring Project of <br />$5,000 in revenue account (no. 154-01-5365) and appropriate to <br />expenditure account (no. 154-218-6391). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Library Services and Technology Act awarded a "Circle of Mentoring <br />Project" grant in the amount of $5,000 to the Santa Ana Public Library. <br />The Circle of Mentoring Project will provide teens with opportunities to <br />be mentored by adult role models in a variety of areas while <br />simultaneously offering teens opportunities to serve as mentors for <br />younger children. Funds shall be used to provide program supplies and <br />equipment. <br />The program will offer teens a place in the library where they feel <br />valued and can participate in constructive and empowering ways.
