NO. 08-051) <br />-~ <br />~2 <br />CI Y MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15i Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Process Solutions, Inc., for the purchase and <br />installation of thirteen sodium hypochlorite generation units in the <br />amount of $725,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Agency's Water Resources Division operates 21 water wells <br />that provide approximately 70 percent of the City's water supply. The <br />Agency is replacing the sodium hypochlorite generation units in service at <br />13 water wells. Sodium hypochlorite is a water disinfectant produced by <br />the generation unit through the combination of table salt, water and <br />electricity. The engineered life of the generation units is 7 years. The <br />current units have been in operation for 8 years and are in need of <br />replacement. Replacing the sodium hypochlorite generation units is part <br />of a regular preventative maintenance program used to ensure the water <br />system remains in compliance with standards set by the California <br />Department of Public Health. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on July 30, 2008 and bids were <br />solicited.
