Pjcl12-23-08 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2009- <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF <br />SURPLUS OR EXPIRED POLICE EQUIPMENT TO <br />BROTHERHOOD OF THE BADGE INTERNATIONAL <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby, finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br />A. The United States Military Police (hereinafter "USMP") are responsible for <br />training police officers in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The USMP have <br />determined there is a significant need for used law enforcement ballistic <br />vests and equipment such as leather gear, radio holders, and helmets. <br />B. Brotherhood of the Badge International has been implemented to allow <br />police departments holding surplus or expired but serviceable equipment to <br />donate that equipment to the government of Iraq and Afghanistan for use by <br />their Police Forces. <br />C. The City of Santa Ana possesses holsters, ammo pouches, handcuff cases, <br />mace holders, magazine pouches, radio holders, drop down holsters, duty <br />jackets, tactical vests, ballistic vests, and helmets which are no longer used <br />by the Santa Ana Police Department because they are surplus or expired. <br />D. This equipment cannot be sold as surplus and is the type of surplus <br />property that would be subject to destruction by the City. <br />E. The City of Santa Ana, by and through the Santa Ana Police Department, <br />wishes to donate the surplus/expired equipment to Brotherhood of the <br />Badge International. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby authorizes and directs <br />the Chief of Police, or his designee, to donate, on behalf of the City of Santa Ana, <br />surplus or expired equipment to Brotherhood of the Badge International for their use in <br />Iraq and Afghanistan for peace keeping and stability operations. <br />55D-2 <br />
