Thornton <br />City Manager <br />RETIREMENT FUND CONTRIBUTIONS BY EMPLOYEES HIRED PRIOR TO AUGUST 19b1 <br />Employees hired prior to August 1961 were not permitted to participate <br />in the retirement system during the first six months of their employment. <br />The Association recommends that City Council pass legislation under the <br />provisions of Section 20804.5 of the State Code which will enable these <br />employees to make a contribution to the retirement fund in an amount <br />equivalent to what they would have paid had they been permitted to be <br />participating members during the first six months of their employment. <br />Favorable action by the Council would permit these employees to increase <br />their period of service by six months for retirement purposes, <br />It is our understanding that the additional cost to the City would be <br />minimal in relation to the benefits gained by the employees concerned. <br />..__~ <br />.._ __ <br />r <br />~ ~ 1 ..r ~ s w k Q..I ~ _ ~. 1 <br />A.
