<br />UwI 02/02/09) <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2009-013 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA FORMAllY RECOGNIZING THE <br />VIETNAMESE AMERICAN FREEDOM AND HERITAGE <br />FLAG. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOllOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. The Vietnamese-American community has made positive contributions to <br />the historical, cultural, educational, and economic prosperity of California <br />and the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br />B. Vietnamese-Americans remain vigilant in opposing tyranny of all forms, <br />actively supporting human rights for all people, and celebrating the <br />principles of democracy, justice, and tolerance upon which our nation was <br />founded; and <br /> <br />C. The flag of the former Republic of Vietnam, with three red stripes upon a <br />field of yellow, and dating back to 1948, has been and will continue to be a <br />symbol of resilience, freedom, and democracy to many Vietnamese- <br />Americans; and <br /> <br />D. The flag of the former Republic of Vietnam is an important symbol in the <br />history of Vietnamese-Americans and is now known as the Vietnamese <br />Freedom and Heritage Flag; and <br /> <br />E. The vast majority of California's Vietnamese-Americans embrace the <br />Vietnamese Freedom and Heritage Flag as the symbol of the Vietnamese- <br />American community. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana formally recognizes the <br />Vietnamese Freedom and Heritage Flag as the official symbol of the Vietnamese- <br />American community and supports their efforts to promote freedom and democracy. <br /> <br />Section 3. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana encourages other <br />governmental organizations take action to formally recognizing the yellow flag with three <br />red stripes as the official flag of the Vietnamese American community and encourages <br />its display. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2009-013 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
