Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager and the Chief of Police <br />to execute a grant award agreement with the California Emergency <br />Management Agency. <br />2. Approve an Appropriation Adjustment recognizing the California <br />Emergency Management Agency Grant funds in the amount of $30,000 into <br />the OES-2009 Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant revenue account (no. 155- <br />01-5371-2) and appropriate same into the OES-2009 Project Safe <br />Neighborhoods expenditure account (no. 155-365-6141). <br />DISCUSSION <br />In 2006 an injunction against members of the ~~Santa Nita" gang was granted <br />by the court to combat crime perpetrated by gang members within an <br />approximate ~ square mile of Santa Ana. There were 133 documented gang <br />members enjoined in the original gang injunction. The "Santa Nita" gang <br />has been responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime in this <br />neighborhood. The California Emergency Management Agency has awarded the <br />Police Department grant funding in the amount of $30,000. This funding <br />will be utilized to pay for overtime to conduct enforcement operations <br />within the designated Safety Zone for any injunction violations and to <br />collaborate with the Orange County District Attorney's Office to pursue <br />prosecution for all violations of the court order. The objectives of this <br />enforcement include continued reduction in Part 1 UCR crimes, gang nuisance <br />activity, and overall crime. <br />20A-1 <br />
