<br />CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />90.A. CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS - None <br />90.8. CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Benavides <br />. Thanked the employees who addressed the Council and shared their <br />thoughts on making cuts in the City's budget <br />. Assured the public that the quality of service is being closely examined <br />by staff and the Council in looking at budget reductions <br />. Noted that the City envisioned developing the area when it bought <br />properties on Santa Ana Boulevard; these purchases were <br />investments that the City made; the City is now making significant <br />advances in the development of the Renaissance Plan <br /> <br />Councilmember Sarmiento <br />. Thanked the employees who addressed the City Council <br />. Noted that the City is making budget reduction decisions in the context <br />of city services and also service cutbacks made in the other levels of <br />government including County, State, and Federal <br />. Congratulated the Mayor for the lobbying work he did on behalf of the <br />City when he was in Washington D. C. <br />. Noted that companies located in the City are still looking for qualified <br />employees <br /> <br />Councilmember Martinez <br />. Thanked the Mayor for his advocacy role in Washington D. C. <br />. Noted that she welcomed the input from speakers related to the <br />importance of maintaining the quality of services and urged the public <br />to give the Council proactive solutions for resolving budget funding <br />shortfalls <br />. Clarified a quote that was attributed to her in the Orange County <br />Register in an article related to the City's efforts in redevelopment <br /> <br />Councilmember Bustamante <br />. Noted that in the past the City Council was criticized for moving too <br />fast on the Renaissance Plan and now is being criticized for moving <br />too slowly; he further noted that moving the City forward is the primary <br />goal of the Council and that he is very proud of the work staff has done <br />on the plan <br />. Encouraged all labor unions to open employee contracts within two <br />weeks <br />.
