REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />APRIL 6, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER TO THE <br />SANTA ANA WORKFORCE INVESTMENT <br />BOARD <br />1.•~' ITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve the nomination of and recommend that the Santa Ana City Council <br />appoint Ms. Sabrina Van Artsdalen, Workforce Specialist IV, as the <br />Workforce Investment Act Title I Programs representative on the Santa Ana <br />Workforce Investment Board. <br />WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD ACTION <br />At its Regular Meeting of March 13, 2009, by a vote of 21:0 (Campanella, <br />Jimenez-Hama, Lewis, Metzler, Pina, and Zarate absent), the Workforce <br />Investment Board recommended that the City Council approve the nomination <br />of and recommend that the Santa Ana City Council appoint Ms. Sabrina Van <br />Artsdalen, Workforce Specialist IV, as the Workforce Investment Act Title <br />I Programs representative on the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br />establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br />members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a majority of the <br />Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private sector. The <br />remaining Board members represent education, non-profit organizations, <br />one-stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br />The Workforce Investment Act requires that the One-Stop, which provides <br />services under Title I of the Workforce Investment Act, have a seat on <br />the Workforce Investment Board. Ms. Sabrina Van Artsdalen, Workforce <br />Specialist IV, will be filling the seat vacated by the One-Stop <br />Coordinator. Her resume is attached (Exhibit 1). <br />13A-1 <br />
