REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MAY 4,2009 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />ACCEPTING ICMA PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />INNOVATION GRANTS FUNDS <br />W - <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1St Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting ICMA Public Library <br />Innovation Grant funds of $59,846 in revenue account (no. 153-01-5378) <br />and appropriate same to expenditure accounts (nos. 153-248 various)for <br />the Connect!: Connecting Yourself with Your Future program. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The International City/County Management Association (ICMA)Public Library <br />Innovation Grant program leverages the potential of public libraries to <br />deliver services in non-traditional areas such as technology, public <br />safety, economic development, health, immigration, civic engagement, and <br />sustainability. The Santa Ana Public Library was awarded a $59,846 ICMA <br />grant for its Connect!: Connecting Yourself with Your Future program. <br />The goal of this program is to create community sustainability by <br />providing young people with the basic tools needed to help them advance <br />economically. This program will provide technology-based educational and <br />workforce-preparation programming to teens & young adults to assist them <br />with their higher education and economic development goals.
