REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MAY 4, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT FOR <br />AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT <br />ACT YOUTH FUNDS <br />CITY ANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1 S` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing $2,078,030 in American <br />Recovery & Reinvestment Act youth funds awarded to the City of Santa Ana <br />WORK Center. <br />DISCUSSION <br />In April 2009, the State of California awarded the City of Santa Ana WORK <br />Center $2,078,030 in American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) youth <br />funds. These funds will be used to provide summer work experience to 400 <br />Workforce Investment Act eligible youth between the ages of 14-24. <br />Participants in the program will receive paid work experience that will <br />allow them to gain basic work skills and learn the meaning of good work <br />habits.
