REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MAY 4, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />ACCEPTING FY 2008/09 CAL-GRIP <br />GRANT FUNDING PROGRAM <br />-7 <br />_ ---~ <br />CITY MA AGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing the FY 2008/09 California <br />Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention Program Fund (CAL GRIP) in the <br />amount of $400,000 into the revenue account (no.155-O1-5373) and <br />appropriate same into the expenditure accounts (nos. 155-367-various). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The State of California, <br />grant funding to state law <br />Reduction, Intervention a <br />competitive grant program <br />gang and youth violence <br />organizations with a heavy <br />Office of Emergency Management Agency provides <br />enforcement agencies through the California Gang <br />nd Prevention Program Fund (CAL GRIP). This <br />is part of the State's commitment to combating <br />and is awarded to cities and community-based <br />concentration of gangs. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department's Police Athletic and Activities League <br />(SAPAAL) in a collaborative effort with additional government agencies, <br />educational partners and community based groups, submitted and has been <br />awarded CAL GRIP grant funding. This funding will provide the SAPAAL and <br />its partners with the resources to enhance its established gang prevention <br />and intervention programs with the objective of increasing participation of <br />at-risk youth by as much as 200. This two-year grant requires a 1000 match <br />on the part of the City. The Police Departments in-kind match includes the <br />salary and benefits of one Police Officer, and a portion of the SAPAAL <br />Assistant Director position. Funds from this match requirement are <br />budgeted in the General Fund and the Police Criminal Activity Fund. <br />20C-1 <br />
