WORK STUDY SESSION <br />• The California Endowment has launch a 10-year, multimillion -dollar <br />statewide commitment to create places where children and youth are <br />healthy, safe and ready to learn <br />• Fourteen places including Santa Ana have been selected for deep, <br />sustained and community -driven investments <br />• The Target area is central Santa Ana <br />• The Orange County Human Relations Commission is the lead agency <br />for the nine month planning process <br />• A Request for Proposals was released and the first convening was <br />held on March 13th at the Santa Ana Unified School District <br />headquarters <br />• March 20th and 27th were dedicated to selecting the Steering <br />Committee <br />• A stakeholder and community engagement forum was held on April 9th <br />• The planning process will last nine months and will result in a 10-year <br />strategic plan that addresses 10 outcome areas <br />• Outcome Areas: <br />o Children have health coverage <br />o Families have improved access to a healthy home that supports <br />healthy behaviors <br />o Health and family focused human services shift resources <br />towards prevention <br />o Residents live in communities with health promoting land use, <br />transportation and community development <br />o Children and their families are safe from violence in their homes <br />and neighborhoods <br />o Communities support healthy youth development <br />o Neighborhood and school environments support improved <br />health and healthy behaviors <br />o Community health improvements are linked to economic <br />development <br />o Health gaps for young men and boys of color are narrowed <br />o Strategic use of media elevates local experience to help <br />influence policy and systems change at all levels <br />• The Steering Committee is comprised of 30 members and each is <br />assigned to an outcome area <br />Council discussion ensued. <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ISSUES OF PUBLIC INTEREST <br />None <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 101 APRIL 20, 2009 <br />
