NO. 09-027) <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15~ Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />r"~ <br />ITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Academy Electric, Inc., to upgrade the motor control <br />center at the Maxine Lift Station in the amount of $65,900. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Agency's Water Resources Division operates two sewage <br />pumping stations that transfer wastewater from the City's collection system <br />into the Orange County Sanitation District sewers. The Agency is upgrading <br />the motor control center at the Maxine Lift Station, which is located near <br />the intersection of W. McFadden Ave. and S. Maxine St. The motor control <br />center regulates the quantity of wastewater pumped from the Maxine Lift <br />Station. Replacement parts are no longer available for the current motor <br />control center and the system is no longer supported by the manufacturer. <br />The new motor control center will include a logic controller and redundant <br />level control technologies, adding to the reliability of the pump station. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on May 14, 2009 and bids were <br />solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br />23 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />2 Invitations For Bid mailed to Santa Ana vendors <br />3 Bids received <br />Bids were received, opened on June 9, 2009, and evaluated (Exhibit 1) The <br />bid received from Academy Electric, Inc. is responsive to the <br />specifications and meets the City's requirements. A contingency has been <br />included for unanticipated minor modifications. <br />221-1 <br />
