REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 3, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT FOR GOVERNMENT <br />LIAISON SERVICES WITH TOWNSEND <br />PUBLIC AFFAIRS <br />~~ <br />f <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15~ Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and Clerk <br />of the Council to amend the agreement for government liaison services with <br />Townsend Public Affairs in an amount not to exceed $50,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Townsend Public Affairs has served as the City's representative in <br />Sacramento for nine years. Their services have included the review and <br />monitoring of state legislation and funding opportunities as well as work <br />with state agencies on regulations and policies that affect Santa Ana. <br />Townsend Public Affairs represented Santa Ana's interests in Sacramento this <br />past year on issues such as local government finance, the 2009 state budget, <br />state enterprise zone, and on a variety of legislative initiatives. In <br />addition, they have worked to pursue grant opportunities such as their <br />efforts to secure a $400, 000 police CalGRIP grant and monies for park and <br />community centers. In past years, Townsend Public Affairs has secured <br />funding for the Discovery Science Center, synthetic turf for Eddie West <br />Stadium, and youth intervention and crime prevention grants. <br />251-1 <br />
