Award a contract to Newtech Engineering and Construction, the lowest <br />responsible bidder, in accordance with unit bid prices in the <br />estimated amount of $64,920 for construction of Carr Intermediate <br />School Sewer Lateral Improvements. <br />2. Approve a Funding Analysis with a total estimated construction cost <br />of $87,800. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City has a sewer main in Edinger Avenue that serves only the Carr <br />Intermediate School site (Exhibit 1). The existing sewer main is <br />deficient and requires frequent maintenance by City forces to prevent <br />sewer spills. The Santa Ana Unified School District ( SAUSD) is adding <br />new classrooms to the school site. These new classrooms will place an <br />additional load on the already deficient sewer main. During the <br />planning phase of the school expansion project, SAUSD agreed to <br />construct a new on -site sewer line. In exchange, the City agreed to <br />extend the new on -site sewer line into the public right -of -way and <br />connect to a trunk sewer in Raitt Street. The proposed project is <br />necessary to complete this installation and connect the line directly to <br />the trunk sewer in Raitt Street. <br />The Notice Inviting Bids was advertised on July 10 and 13, 2009, and <br />bids were opened on July 23, 2009. A summary of the bid invitations <br />mailed, the bids received, and the bid results follows. <br />23A -1 <br />
