REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />SEPTEMBER 8, 2009 <br />TITLE. <br />AGREEMENT FOR POLICE SERVICE <br />DOG TRAINING SERVICES WITH <br />ADLERHORST INTERNATIONAL, INC. <br />C TY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"`' Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City Manager and the Clerk of the Council to execute the <br />attached agreement with Adlerhorst International, Inc. subject to non- <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney, to <br />provide police service dog training services in an annual amount not to <br />exceed $50,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Adlerhorst International, Inc. has been the City's exclusive provider and <br />trainer of police service dogs since 1982. Adlerhorst International, Inc. <br />is a nationally recognized company known for its experience and expertise <br />in the selection, testing, and training of police service dogs. The Police <br />Department currently has six police service dogs that were purchased from <br />and trained by Adlerhorst. Staff recommends the execution of this <br />agreement for consistency and efficiency in the operations of the canine <br />unit. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the Police Department's Animal Services fund account <br />(no. 011-339-6291). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br />ICJ <br />Paul M.
