The amount is <br />not to exceed $48,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City, in collaboration with various governmental, educational, and <br />community based partners, has received California Gang Reduction, <br />Intervention and Prevention (Ca1GRIP) grant funds to be used to reduce gang <br />and youth violence. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County has partnered <br />with Santa Ana Police Department's Athletic and Activities League to <br />establish a mentoring program at Carr Intermediate School. Currently there <br />is an existing program at Lincoln elementary school and this agreement will <br />allow the mentoring to continue with the identified students through their <br />tenure at Carr Intermediate. <br />The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program pairs a qualified mentor <br />with a student who may be experiencing behavioral, disciplinary, or <br />educational difficulties. The goal of the program is to provide a positive <br />role model for the student and to encourage appropriate behaviors. <br />251-1 <br />
