REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />NOVEMBER 2, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />AMENDMENT TO RESOLUTION NUMBER 2001- <br />065 TO PROVIDE FOR CONTINUATION OF <br />ADDITIONAL PARTIALLY-PAID TEMPORARY <br />MILITARY LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR CITY <br />EMPLOYEES CALLED TO ACTIVE DUTY <br />~~~~ <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED <br />TO <br />FILE <br />NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to continue to provide <br />additional partially-paid temporary military leave of absence and <br />dependent benefits for City employees called to active duty with the <br />armed forces. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On October 1, 2001, the Santa Ana City Council adopted Resolution No. <br />2001-065, providing for additional partially-paid temporary military <br />leave of absence for full-time officers or employees of the City called <br />to active military service with the Armed Forces of the United States in <br />connection with the then-current military crisis, and for continuation <br />of dependent benefits. That Resolution also provided that its terms <br />would expire unless extended by further action of the City Council. <br />The City Council has subsequently adopted resolutions extending the <br />termination date of Resolution No. 2001-065 each succeeding year. By <br />adopting the subject resolution, the City Council will extend the <br />termination date to June 30, 2010, and continue to assist City employees <br />and their families with financial hardships resulting from active duty <br />service in connection with the continuing current military commitment. <br />55E-1 <br />
