Each resident is assigned a counselor/case manager who works with her to
develop a short- and long-term recovery plan that includes action steps, measurable goals, and a timeline,
allowing both client and staff to assess their achievement and note challenges to be addressed. Beginning
with short-term goals such as honoring curfews and participating in chores, the recovery plan moves the
client, during the average three-month stay with us, in the direction of longer -term achievements such as
planning to return to school, finding employment, and re-establishing relationships with family. Other
services we provide include daily meals prepared with the help of the residents, 12-Step and Big Book
classes, speaker events and panel discussions with former residents, counseling, physical and mental
healthcare, in-house education and employment referrals, and social and family services. Women who
are addicted to drugs and alcohol, and who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, have a unique set
of needs and circumstances, which can include domestic violence, mental illness, single parenthood and
unplanned pregnancy. Many times these women have co-occurring disorders and other needs. We
respond to each client's individual needs, partnering with other agencies such as the Huntington Beach
Community Clinic, the Wise Place, and the Mariposa Women's Center to provide healthcare, counseling,
and other services. In some cases, we refer women to longer -term supportive living services after leaving
us, following up with them to make sure they have transitioned successfully.
Exhibit A-1
