This is also the case for police effectiveness in <br />accomplishing their core mission of preventing crime. Building relationships with the <br />public increases police legitimacy and affects how well they can control crime. <br />Goal: <br />1) To increase community awareness and education in crime prevention through the <br />implementation of both a neighborhood and business watch program in the City of Stanton. <br />-- 2) Increase interaction between law enforcement and the community during City events <br />and activities, through use of overtime, in effort to build a better partnership to help reduce <br />crime. <br />3) Form a Stanton Bike Team which will participate in community events and afford <br />deputies the opportunity to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the public by interacting with the <br />community in a positive environment away from calls for service. <br />Activities: (which can be started and completed expeditiously, and in a manner that <br />maximizes job creation and economic benefits) <br />• Assist residents in creating neighborhood watch groups in effort to reduce crime. <br />• Provide materials and continued support of neighborhood watch groups through <br />participation in meetings and events /activities. <br />• Collaborate with the Stanton Chamber of Commerce to create a business watch <br />program in the City of Stanton and attend monthly Chamber meetings with the <br />business community. <br />• Provide materials and continued support of Stanton business watch. <br />• Utilize JAG funding to cover overtime costs for neighborhood and business watch <br />meetings and activities. <br />• Purchase patrol bicycles and all related equipment and items necessary for the <br />implementation of a Stanton Bike Team. <br />• Utilize JAG funding to cover overtime costs for Bike Team members to participate in <br />City activities and events. <br />Quantifiable Performance Measures: (Established by the agency to assess whether grant <br />objectives are being met) <br />1. Number of neighborhood watch programs implemented. <br />2. Hours (regular and overtime) spent working with community on neighborhood <br />watch meetings and activities. <br />3. Number of neighborhood and business watch meetings held / attended. <br />4. Number of hours (regular and overtime) spent working with the business <br />community on crime reduction. <br />S.
