Set Public Hearing For <br /> CONTINUED TO <br /> f - ~ ~J'1-~ FILE NUMBER <br /> CITY MANAGER <br /> RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> Appoint Robert Ruiz, Secretary-Treasurer of Laborers Local 652, as a <br /> labor representative on the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br /> WORKFORCE INVESMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION <br /> At its regular meeting of November 20, 2009, by a vote of 20:0 (de Leon, <br /> Fischer, Hood, Korthuis, Lin, Martinez, Metzler, Pina, and Syed absent), <br /> the Workforce Investment Board recommended that the City Council appoint <br /> Robert Ruiz, Secretary-Treasurer of Laborers Local 652, as a labor <br /> representative on the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br /> establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br /> members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a majority of the <br /> Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private sector. The <br /> remaining Board members represent education, non-profit organizations, <br /> one-stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br /> Currently there is one mandated labor representative seat vacant on the <br /> Board. The Orange County Central Labor Council is the only labor <br /> organization authorized to nominate labor representatives locally and <br /> they have submitted a nomination letter for Mr. Ruiz (Exhibit 1), which <br /> <br /> highlights his qualifications. <br /> 13C-1 <br /> <br />
