Iss12/22/09 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2009-063 <br />~r. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR <br />OF THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY TO EXECUTE A <br />GRANT AWARD AGREEMENT WITH THE CALIFORNIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE SAFE <br />ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby, finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br />A. In 1999 the State of California enacted California Streets and Highways <br />Code §2333.5, which calls for Caltrans to establish and administer a "Safe <br />Routes to School" construction program ("Program") and to use federal <br />transportation funds for the construction and improvement of school <br />pedestrian safety projects. <br />r,,,,,, B. The Program mandates that Caltrans shall make grants available to local <br />governmental agencies for projects to improve school pedestrian safety <br />such as sidewalks, curb ramps, pavement markers, school signage, driver <br />feedback signs, and traffic calming projects. <br />C. The City of Santa Ana has been selected to receive Program funds to <br />provide pedestrian safety improvements at the Jim Thorpe Elementary <br />School at the Greenville StreeUAlton Avenue railroad crossing. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports State funding of the <br />Jim Thorpe Elementary School route improvements at the Greenville StreeUAlton <br />Avenue railroad crossing. <br />Section 3. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana authorizes the Executive <br />Director of the Public Works Agency, or his designee, to execute the grant award <br />agreement with the California Department of Transportation, for the Safe Routes to <br />Schools Program. <br />Section 4. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana certifies that it will provide the <br />required ten percent (10%) local match to complete the project. <br />Resolution No. 2009-063 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
