REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 1, 2010 <br />TITLE: <br />REAPPOINTMENT OF WORKFORCE <br />INVESTMENT BOARD MEMBERS <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 15f Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2 d Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Recommend that the City Council reappoint Benjamin Blank, Patricia <br />Carter, John Didion, Eduardo Figueroa, Bob Fischer, Tefere Gebre, Ana <br />Jimenez -Hami, Gregory Lewis, and Daniel Solkamans to the Santa Ana <br />Workforce Investment Board for four -year terms. <br />WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION <br />At its regular meeting of January 15, 2010 by a vote of 17:0 (Blank, <br />Beasley, Conway, Didion, Gebre, Jimenez -Hami, Korthuis, Lin, Martinez, <br />Metzler, Nazeri, Pina absent) the Workforce Investment Board recommended <br />that the City Council reappoint Benjamin Blank, Patricia Carter, John <br />Didion, Eduardo Figueroa, Bob Fischer, Tefere Gebre, Ana Jimenez -Hami, <br />Gregory Lewis, and Daniel Solkamans to the Santa Ana Workforce Investment <br />Board for a four -year term. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution <br />establishing the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and appointed 35 <br />members. In accordance with the federal legislation, a majority of the <br />Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private sector. The <br />remaining Board members represent education, non - profit organizations, <br />one -stop mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br />Presently, there are nine board members whose terms expire in March 2010 <br />and are being recommended for an additional four -year term reappointment <br />to the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. The nine members' resumes <br />are included as Exhibit 1, which detail their titles and employment. <br />13B -1 <br />
