Set Public Hearing For
(SPEC. NO. 09-052)
CONTINUED TO
FILE NUMBER
CITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Amend the contract with Pacific Services for the purchase of a micro-wave based network
system, including installation and maintenance support, by $38,000 for an annual amount not to
exceed $85,000.
DISCUSSION
A wireless optical laser system is used to connect the City's computer network between the Data
Center in City Hall and the Data Center in the Police Building. This network link provides critical
connections for the Police and Jail Operations. Until recently, the system has proven very
effective. However, to service the expanding needs of crime analysis, it is necessary to increase
the network bandwidth capacity and reliability through an improved micro-wave based network.
On November 2, 2009, the City Council awarded a contract to Pacific Services to improve
network connectivity between City Hall and the Corporation Yard via the BridgeWave system - a
market leader in this technology category. The system has proved an effective solution and it is
now recommended to extend the micro-wave network to the Police Administration facility to
enhance capacity and capabilities for the Police Department.
22C-1
