Alumni can also electronically update <br />their contact information and request additional support services via the website. <br />The OCCC also offers extensive support services to help corps members learn how to work and <br />go to school. In addition to frequent mentoring, OCCC offers regularly-scheduled A.A•/N.A. <br />meetings; workshops on issues ranging from financial literacy and anger management to tobacco <br />cessation; and educational field trips. OCCC Program Specialists monitor individual corps <br />members' progress towards program completion and provide referrals as needed to other <br />agencies for legal issues, health, housing and guidance and counseling. Program Specialists <br />award corps members financial bonuses for achieving specific goals, such as: getting a driver's <br />license, being discharged from probation or parole, achieving 100% program attendance and <br />earning a high school diploma. As carps members complete their training, they transition to the <br />Corps-2-Career program, where program specialists offer up to 13 weeks of pre-employment <br />skills training, individualized job searches and placements, continuing education support, <br />mentoring and 12 months of follow-up services to alumni. <br />C. Goals/ObjectivesruzrlPeffojnzarrceLevels <br />Taller San Jose and OCCC will recruit and ento1120 out-of-school youth over the course of the <br />next year. By focusing on the high-growth area of green construction and emphasizing living- <br />wage employment with health benefits, Taller San Jose and OCCC will give students the skills <br />needed to enter today's workforce and move out of poverty so that they can support themselves <br />and their families. All 20 WIA participants will receive certification from the North American <br />Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEF). <br />Talle~• San Jose's Green Consixuction Program will simulate the workforce and strive to assist <br />young adults to become economically self-sufficient through intensive training that leads to <br />living-wage employment. Candidates for training are interviewed, possess right-to-work <br />documents, must pass a drag screen, are required to comply with uniform stazidards and are <br />expected to be presenf daily and on time. Youth who meet the minimum requirements far <br />enrollment take part in an interview and assessment priox to begizming job-training. The TABE <br />assessment test is used to identify the basic skill proficiency levels of each student, Program <br />components are then adjusted to meet the youth's basic skills needs as determined by the <br />assessment. Students enrolled in Taller San Jose's green construction program will participate in <br />two hours of daily math training during the 15-week basic construction course. The classes will <br />concentrate on the algebra, geometry and trigonometzy needed for basic construction pri~ieiples. <br />Historically, the typical graduate of our canshuetion training program experiences an average <br />increase of two grade levels in their math abilities. <br />Taller San Jose's Case Managers monitor student attendance, goal setting and achievement, <br />educational assessment and progress, to identify students in danger of dropping out of its job- <br />training programs. Those who complete the training program work with onsite job developers to <br />prepare resumes, practice interviewing skills and find employment.
