Set Public Hearing For <br /> ,.1 CONTINUED TO <br /> Lam' w FILE N U M B E R <br /> CITY MANAGER <br /> RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> Award a contract to Fire Service Specification & Supply for Rescue Extraction Equipment in the <br /> amount not to exceed $38,238. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> On April 7, 2008, the City Council accepted a $250,401 grant from the State of California <br /> Governor's Office of Homeland Security, under the Metropolitan Medical Response System <br /> Program. The program was created to enhance a community's ability to respond to terrorist <br /> attacks. <br /> The Fire Department has three front line Truck Companies, equipped with hydraulic rescue tools. <br /> On December 1, 2008, the City Council approved replacement extraction equipment for two of <br /> the truck companies. This purchase will complete the upgrade by outfitting the third Truck <br /> Company with lighter, more durable hydraulic rescue tools. This purchase will standardize rescue <br /> equipment and enhance the Fire Department's emergency response capability. <br /> Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase against contracts from <br /> any public agency utilizing a competitive bid process. The City of Los Angeles' contract with Fire <br /> Service Specification & Supply was awarded as a result of open, competitive bidding, and meets <br /> <br /> the City's requirements. Staff recommends the purchase of the rescue extraction equipment. <br /> 22A-1 <br /> <br />
