He also serves on the Annual <br />Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation <br />team and has assisting with various account <br />reconciliation projects. He has audited complex areas <br />including pension and OPEB, leases, and debt <br />refunding, amongst other areas. As an auditor, he <br />planned and performed risk assessments and tests of <br />controls, conducted fieldwork and testing, and drafted <br />financial statements for various governmental and Not- <br />for-Profit entities. Nicholas had to consider the risks <br />related to information technology (IT) as part of the <br />financial statement risk assessment by gaining an <br />understanding of an entity’s IT control environment and <br />identifying and evaluating IT controls. Nicholas often <br />had to test significant IT controls to lower the assessed <br />risk over IT controls to an acceptable level. Examples <br />of IT controls he often tested include: application, user <br />access, backup and recovery, and security <br />management controls.
