' VICENTE SARMIENTO
- ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
SUPERVISOR, SECOND DISTRICT
COUNTY ADMINISTRATION NORTH BUILDING
400 W.CIVIC CENTER DRIVE.SANTA ANA,CALIFORNIA 92701
PHONE(714)834-3220
May 5"', 2025
Santa Ana City Council
20 Civic Center Plaza
Santa Ana, CA 92701
RE: Support for Item 26-Transparency and Public Notification of ICE/DHS Courtesy Alerts to
Santa Ana Police Department
Dear Mayor Amezcua and Honorable City Council,
As the Second District Supervisor for the County of Orange, I am pleased to express my support
Councilmember Hernandez's and Mayor Pro Tem Vazquez's Council directed item to"Implement a Policy
Requiring Immediate Disclosure of All ICE Courtesy Notifications Received by the Santa Ana Police
Department."
Enhancing transparency will help to ensure that local undocumented residents and their families can trust
their local government, particularly during this period of increased federal immigration enforcement. This
policy of transparency aligns with existing data sharing practices from the Santa Ana Police Department
and if structured properly, will not directly interfere with the actions of any federal agency. By updating the
City's approach to sharing this information,we empower Santa Aan residents with the knowledge they need
to make informed decisions about how to prepare for the possibility of local immigration actions.
For these reasons I am supportive of this item. Should you have any questions please reach out to my office
at 714-834-3220 or vicente.sarmientokoc og v.com.
Sincerely,
Vicente Sarmiento
Supervisor, Second District
