Zuniga, Diana
From: Joyce Ramirez <
Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2025 9:08 AM
To: !City Clerk
Subject: Unclean water is a problem
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear city clerk of santa ana,
My name is Joyce Ramirez , and I am a 9th-grade student at Samueli Academy in Santa Ana.
I am writing to you because I care deeply about people having access to clean water all over the world.
This issue is important because there are currently 2 billion people on this planet who don't have access to clean
water. One would think access to clean water is a resource that should be accessible to everyone, but that is not
the case. Sadly, there is an estimate of 2 billion people who are affected by waterborne illnesses and contract
harmful microorganisms that cause grave health complications such as gastrointestinal issues.
If this problem continued people could develop severe gastroenteritis, skin discoloration, nervous system
damage, reproductive issues, and even cancer.
One solution I've researched is algae water treatment.
This solution could help because algae has the potential for wastewater treatment and pollutants
remediation.Algal cultures produce biomass from the wastewater pollutants. The algal biomass can be used for
the fractionation of value-added products. Potential algae can be used for resource recovery and sustainability.
I ask that you please consider the algae based water treatment as a solution to the environmental problem.
Please support this solution by supporting The Clean Water Act.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue. I hope you will take action to protect our
environment.
Sincerely,
Joyce Ramirez.
i
