67 <br />NA-10 Housing Needs Assessment <br />Summary of Housing Needs <br />Santa Ana’s population fell by four percent between 2010 and 2020, decreasing from <br />324,528 to 310,277 (Table 6). During this same period, the number of households rose by <br />six percent from 74,381 to 79,142 and the median household income increased 32 percent <br />from $54,877to $72,406. <br />Over 66 percent of all households in Santa Ana earn up to 80 percent Area Median Income <br />(AMI). Figure 1 shows how many households are in each income category. <br />Figure 1 – Households <br />Data Source: 2016-2020 CHAS <br />The Number of Households Table (Table 7) categorizes household types in the City by <br />income levels. Small family households consist of two-to-four family members, while large <br />family households have five or more people. Small family households are the most <br />common household type, representing 44 percent of all households in Santa Ana. <br />In this section there are eight tables of data which reference housing problems. Housing <br />problems are defined by HUD as: <br />1.Lacks complete kitchen facilities: Household lacks a sink with piped water, a range <br />or stove, or a refrigerator. <br />2.Lacks complete plumbing facilities: Household lacks hot and cold piped water, a <br />flush toilet, and a bathtub or shower. <br />3.Overcrowding / severe overcrowding: A household is overcrowded if there are more <br />than 1.01 people per room, excluding bathrooms, porches, foyers, halls, or half- <br />EXHIBIT 1
