community colleges that works to identify career ladders for growth for Medical Careers
Academy graduates.
Traditionally the construction industry has been a high-growth industry in the county. Despite
the economic downturn, the building industry still has a need for skilled, reliable entry-level
workers and 70% of our construction academy graduates are placed into employment or
continuing education within 30 days of graduation from our program. Taller San Jose works with
industry partners to refine its program curriculum to ensure that its training continues to meet the
evolving needs of the market. A key dimension of Taller San Jose's mission is to ensure that
students are prepared for new employment opportunities such as those associated with the
growth of the green economy. To help students build skills that are currently in demand in the
building industry, Taller San Jose has added supplemental training for alumni in green
construction, specifically solar panel installation and weatherization. The nation's green building
economy is poised to grow exponentially in the next few years, yet faces looming labor shortages
in the areas of manufacturing, construction and installation. According to the California Center
for Sustainable Energy, Orange County's green economy is poised for enormous growth and is
one of the top five counties (behind Los Angeles and San Diego counties) pushing the growth of
the state's green economy. Taller San Jose believes that it is well positioned to link the
employment needs of disadvantaged youth to the emerging market in green construction.
E.
