Zuniga, Diana
From: Dominic Bendinelli <
Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2025 2:47 PM
To: Amezcua, Valerie; Phan, Thai; Vazquez, Benjamin; Lopez, Jessie; Bacerra, Phil;
Hernandez, Johnathan; Penaloza, David; eComment
Subject: NO on agenda Item 22: Oppose Gas Industry Resolution
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Mayor Amezcua and Councilmembers,
I respectfully urge you to oppose Agenda Item 22. Santa Ana's air quality remains among the worst in the United States,
with our children and families bearing the brunt of its health impacts. According to the American Lung Association, our
region—along with Los Angeles and Long Beach—continues to receive failing grades for ozone pollution year after year.
Gas appliances in homes and buildings emit up to seven times more harmful, lung-damaging pollution in Santa Ana than
local power plants.Transitioning away from gas appliances such as furnaces and water heaters is a critical step toward
protecting public health. This shift would reduce exposure to pollutants that contribute to asthma, lung cancer, and
cardiovascular disease.
According to the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the proposed rules would prevent an estimated 2,490
premature deaths and generate$25.43 billion in health benefits and savings in the coming decades. Moreover, electric
alternatives such as heat pumps offer the most energy-efficient cooling available and can save the average California
household approximately$370 annually.
Cleaner, electric appliances are no longer a luxury—they are a public health imperative, and they are more accessible
than ever before. I urge you to prioritize the health and well-being of Santa Ana residents by rejecting Agenda Item 22.
1 feel it is imperative to counter a common myth that these rules do anything to mandate purchase by consumers. It
does not. This regulation only applies to manufacturers.
Sincerely,
Dominic Bendinelli
i
