This approach is
not only ineffective in building community trust, but also dangerous in practice.
The events of September 28, 2021,when my son, Brandon Lopez was killed, highlight these dangers. On that day, militarized vehicles
and weapons were deployed into a residential neighbord, escalating the the situation rather than calming it. This tragic outcome
showed exactly why militarized force has no place in Santa Ana.
The police department has already violated state law by failing to be transparent about how these weapons are used. To continue
allowing thom, despite that history, would further erode trust between residents and law enforcement.
| urge you to vote noon authorizing militarized weapons and vehicles. Let's choose community safety through pmvonhon, oam, and
investment in-not militarization.
Johanna Lopez
Santa Ana Resident
z
