This collaboration is heart of Santa Ana, shaping
its culture, providing jobs, and fostering a sense of community. Many of us are not just business owners—we
are residents, neighbors, and active members of this city. We have invested our lives in building something
meaningful here, not only for ourselves but for the community and future generations. Yet, the proposed TZC
(SD-84) zoning changes threaten to upend this legacy with little collaboration or clarity.

One of the most concerning aspects of this proposal is the lack of engagement with the business
community. We have had one collaboration at the train station on this issue. While residents’ voices are crucial,
businesses also play an essential role in the fabric of Santa Ana. We don’t just operate here—we live here, we
contribute to the local economy, and we support the city in countless ways. Our voices deserve to be heard as
well. A truly inclusive process would involve business owners and residents working together to shape policies
that serve the entire community, not just one segment of it.

The proposed zoning changes are written so broadly that they leave more questions than answers. What will
happen to long-standing businesses? Will they be forced out due to unclear or impractical regulations? How will
these changes impact our ability to grow and adapt in an evolving economy? Uncertainty is not just unsettling—
it can be devastating for businesses that have thrived here for decades. Without clear guidelines and a
collaborative approach, businesses face an unpredictable future that could lead to closures and displacement.

If these changes are implemented as they stand, many businesses—some of which have operated in Santa Ana
for generations—will be forced to shut down or relocate. This isn’t just about economics; it’s about identity,
culture, and history. Families who have poured their hearts into their businesses will lose everything they’ve
built. The city will lose not just businesses but the very essence of what makes Santa Ana unique.

Santa Ana’s motto is clear: To enhance the quality of life and provide for a safe, healthy, prosperous, and
livable environment in partnership with the community.

Right now, businesses are being left out of that partnership. We believe in Santa Ana, and we want to be part of
the solution. Let’s come together—residents, business owners, and city officials—to create zoning regulations
that reflect the true spirit of our city.

We urge city leaders to pause this process and engage in meaningful discussions with the business community.
Together, we can craft zoning changes that protect Santa Ana’s heritage while allowing for responsible growth.
Collaboration, transparency, and clarity must be at the center of this conversation.

Planning Commission 1 – 183 3/6/2025
