To: Planning Commission of Santa Ana
Subject: Impact of Rezoning on Supreme Abrasives and the Community

Good Evening,
My name is Garrett Greiwe and I am the President of Supreme Abrasives, a business that has proudly
operated right here in Santa Ana on Fuller Street. For years, we have contributed to this city—not just as a
company but as a vital part of the local economy. Today, I stand before you to address a matter of critical
importance: the city’s decision to rezone the area where our business is located and the profound
consequences this will have on our company, our employees, and the greater Santa Ana community.
As a manufacturer of essential goods with a distribution location in Santa Ana, we rely on our current location
to serve our customers efficiently. The proposed rezoning threatens to push us out of Santa Ana entirely. This
is not just a logistical inconvenience; it is a fundamental disruption to our business operations. We employ 20
hardworking individuals in California, three of whom are residents of Santa Ana. These are not just numbers—
these are families who depend on their jobs to make ends meet, to pay rent, to put food on the table. If the city
moves forward with this rezoning, these employees face the very real risk of losing their jobs as we are left with
no choice but to relocate the remainder of our company out of state. Our current location serves as a
distribution location for the products we make; our production has already been forced out of California to more
business-friendly states.
But it’s not just our company and employees who will suffer. Supreme Abrasives does business with other
companies in Santa Ana. We purchase goods and services locally. We buy meals, shop in stores, and
contribute to the city’s tax base. Our departure would mean less economic activity, fewer dollars circulating in
the local economy, and a direct negative impact on the businesses that depend on us.
Beyond the financial impact, there is a larger issue at stake: the message this rezoning sends to businesses
like ours. If a company that has been a part of this community for years can be forced out due to policy
changes, what does that say to other businesses considering Santa Ana as their home? It creates uncertainty,
discourages investment, and ultimately stifles economic growth. I would bet every business owner and
building owner represented here today is second guessing their future here in this great city.
I urge the city to reconsider this rezoning decision. Instead of pushing businesses out, we should be fostering
an environment where companies like ours can thrive. Supreme Abrasives wants to stay in Santa Ana,
continue employing local residents, and keep contributing to this community. But if this zoning change
proceeds, we will be forced to leave, taking jobs, revenue, and economic stability with us.
Let’s work together to find a solution that supports businesses, protects jobs, and ensures a prosperous future
for all of Santa Ana. Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Garrett Greiwe
President – Supreme Abrasives

Planning Commission 1 – 190 3/6/2025
