NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING BEFORE THE SANTA ANA HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION The City of Santa Ana encourages the public to participate in the decision- making process. We encourage you to contact us prior to the Public Hearing if you have any questions. Historic Resources Commission Action: The Historic Resources Commission will hold a Public Hearing to receive public testimony, and will take action on the item described below. Their decision is final unless appealed to the City Council within 10 days of the decision by any interested party or group. Project Location:1904 North Heliotrope Drive located within the Single Family Residential (R1) zoning district. Project Applicant:Robert Imboden (Applicant) Bejay & Laura Magnusen (Property Owners) Project Description:The applicant is requesting approval of Historic Exterior Modification Application (HEMA) No. 2023-10 for a property listed as a “Landmark” on the Santa Ana register, known as the Elliott House. Scope includes modifying four existing metal balcony railings on the main building for safety that is consistent with Building Code requirements, which are located on all four facades at the second story; replacing the non-compatible rear (west) entrance stoop at the main residential building with a more period-appropriate stoop; adding 69 square feet to the existing garage-accessory structure in order to convert it to a three-car garage with additional storage; and expanding and repaving the driveway to accommodate a third parking space. Environmental Impact:Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the CEQA Guidelines, the project is exempt from further review under Section 15331, Class 31, as this action is designed to preserve a historic resource. Categorical Exemption No. ER- 2023-123 will be filed for this project.
