Planning and Building Agency <br />Item # 4 <br />City of Santa Ana <br />20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 <br />Historic Resources Commission Staff Report <br />November 7, 2024 <br />Topic: Ad Hoc Committee Nominations for the 2024 City of Santa Ana Historic <br />Preservation Awards <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Approve Ad Hoc Committee Nominations for 2024 City of Santa Ana Historic Preservation <br />Awards. <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />The Ad Hoc Committee, with Staff assistance, has slected nominations for the 2024 City <br />of Santa Ana Historic Preservation Awards. Five projects are nominated for the 2024 <br />awards as examples of exemplary restoration and historic infill design efforts as well as <br />general merit in the field of preservation. The nominees include the YMCA building (203- <br />205 West Civic Center Drive), the Thomas House (621 North Spurgeon Street), 625 <br />South Broadway, the Pomeroy House (718 South Broadway), and a single in-fill project <br />comprised of two new properties at 826 and 830 North Lacy Street. On behalf of the Ad <br />Hoc Committee, Staff recommends the Commission approve the nominations. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Background <br />In May 2024, Planning staff announced that the City was accepting nominations for the <br />2024 Historic Preservation Awards. The original deadline for nominations was Friday, <br />August 9, 2024. However, the deadline was extended to Friday, September 6, 2024, to <br />allow for additional nominations to be submitted. Staff received eight nominations in total <br />but after staff review, it was determined that only five nominations met the eligibility <br />requirements. <br />On October 17, 2024, Planning staff met with members of the Ad Hoc Committee to <br />discuss the five eligible nominations received for the 2024 City of Santa Ana Historic <br />Preservation Awards. The Ad Hoc Committee consisted of Historic Resource <br />Commissioners Ginelle Hardy and Irma Jauregui, as well as a local architect, Robert <br />Imboden, AIA. Mr. Imboden holds an undergraduate degrees in both Interior Design and <br /> <br /> <br />
