Becerra, Alexis
From: EDER ARREOLA <
Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 11:10 AM
To: eComment
Subject: SOCCER FIELD ACCESS ISSUES- LA ACADEMIA
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Mayor and Council members,
My name is Eder Arreola. I am originally from Chino Hills, and I was fortunate to play soccer at UCLA, in Major League
Soccer, Liga MX, and with the U.S. National Team. Soccer has given me opportunities that changed the course of my life,
and I know firsthand how powerful the game can be when youth are given the right environment and support.
I am writing in support of La Academia, a nonprofit organization that is doing incredible work for the young people of
Santa Ana. I have seen up close the challenges this community faces — many of the city's most talented players have
historically been forced to leave Santa Ana in search of better opportunities elsewhere. La Academia is addressing that
gap directly, building a pathway right here at home so kids can stay in their community and still dream big.
What concerns me is that their work is being jeopardized by limited access to fields. This is not just a La Academia issue
— it's a challenge that impacts all user groups. But La Academia's approach, their mission, and their results show that
they are truly trying to uplift the entire community, not just their own program.
I believe this is a pivotal moment for Santa Ana. By ensuring that organizations like La Academia have fair and consistent
access to fields, the City will be investing in something far greater than soccer. You will be investing in keeping kids
engaged, motivated, and on a pathway that can lead to college, professional opportunities, and most importantly,
positive growth as individuals.
La Academia is not asking for exclusivity or to shut others out. They are asking for a fair chance to continue their mission.
I urge you to support them and to work toward a system that allows all organizations to thrive while putting the needs
of Santa Ana's youth first.
Thank you for your time and for your dedication to the community.
Sincerely,
Eder Arreola
Former UCLA, MILS, Liga MX, and U.S. National Team Player
