Flores, Dora
From:
Justin Vandercook <
Sent:
Tuesday, September 16, 2025 1:12 PM
To:
eComment; ecomment@santaana.org
Subject:
"Soccer Field Access Issues - La Academia"
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Santa Ana Council Members,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep appreciation for the role that youth sports —
particularly the Albion Santa Ana Soccer Program —play in our community, and to share how profoundly the game has
impacted my son, William's, development.
Soccer has become more than just a sport for my son; it is a cornerstone of his growth. Through practices, games, and
team interactions, he has learned discipline, resilience, and the value of hard work. He has developed friendships that
have taught him empathy and teamwork, and he has gained confidence that extends far beyond the field.
In a world where screens and distractions are everywhere, soccer has given him a healthy outlet for energy and emotion.
It has helped him stay active, focused, and engaged. I have seen firsthand how the structure and camaraderie of the sport
have shaped his character in ways that school alone cannot.
His Coach, Evi Serrano, has been more than a teacher of the game. He has been a mentor, a motivator, and a steady
presence in my son's life. Through every practice and match, he has instilled values like discipline, teamwork, and
perseverance. He has helped my son navigate challenges both on and off the field, encouraging him to believe in himself
and to push through setbacks with resilience.
It is rare to find someone who can connect with kids in such a meaningful way. The coach's guidance has helped my son
grow more confident, more respectful, and more determined —not just as an athlete, but as a young person finding his
place in the world.
We are fortunate to have passionate individuals like Coach Evi, and all the coaches at Albion, in our community, but they
need the city's support. I hope you will continue to invest in youth sports infrastructure —especially soccer —so that more
children can benefit from the kind of mentorship and structure my son has received.
I urge you to continue supporting and investing in youth soccer programs, fields, and facilities for our kids. These
resources are not just recreational —they are developmental. They provide a safe space for children to grow, learn, and
thrive. For my son and many others, soccer is a lifeline to a brighter, more balanced future.
Thank you for your time and for all you do to support families in our city.
Warm regards,
Justin Vandercook
Proud parent of an Albion Santa Ana Soccer Player!
11
