HOUSING ELEMENT -- Melanie McCann, Planning & Building Agency, and <br />Mark Hoffman, Planning Center Consultant <br />Ms. McCann provided a brief introduction and Mr. Hoffman provided a <br />PowerPoint presentation and handout. Following are some of the highlights: <br />• The Housing Element sets policy for how housing is supposed to be built <br />and how it functions in the City. <br />• The Housing Element provides a range of housing for people of all walks <br />of life. <br />• The Housing Element is a mandated chapter of the City's comprehensive <br />General Plan, which guides future growth. <br />• All cities are required to have an adequate housing element under <br />Government Code, Section 65584, <br />Key goals include: promoting a variety of housing types to accommodate <br />needs; incrementally improving substandard housing; preserving housing <br />opportunities for lower income households; maintaining, preserving, and <br />revitalizing neighborhoods; and promoting the preservation of historic <br />homes. <br />CRHC MINUTES 2 December 4, 2007 <br />
