Garfield had remained standing when all the <br />other buildings around it were bulldozed. Mrs, Landry-Bayie answered <br />that houses have to be deemed uninhabitable before they can be <br />demolished and that demolition is carried out per the Specific Plan <br />approved. <br />Commissioner Stroud <br />• Thanked everyone for the warm welcome. <br />• Stated that he is happy to be part of this Commission and that he has <br />worked with staff and is looking forward to working with the <br />commissioners and staff once again. <br />Commissioner Betancourt <br />• Welcomed Commissioner Stroud. <br />• Thanked staff for being so understanding and helpful. <br />Student Member Garcia <br />~ ~ Thanked the Commission for the warm welcome. <br />• Noticed that the Commission was focusing on housing issues. Stated <br />that she feels it is also important to concentrate on recreation areas <br />and soccer fields for children. <br />Chairperson Sarmiento <br />• Thanked all the Commissioners and feels the Commissioners can do a <br />better job with more information at their disposal and wants to do a <br />better job for staff as well. <br />• Stated he would also like to have a certificate of recognition for Kathy <br />Abelar. <br />• Thanked staff for the Rockefeller Commission report. <br />• Welcomed Commissioner Stroud. <br />• Mentioned that some concern was expressed by merchants over the <br />use of the 3`d and Bush surface street lot.
