Exhibit A. <br /> 4.6 Beginning Rates. An employee appointed to one of the designated sworn (CaIPERS <br /> "Safety")classifications of employment listed in this MOU maybe placed by the appointing <br /> authority at Step"A,"Step`B,"Step"C",or Step"D"within the applicable rate range in the <br /> schedule to which the class has been allocated by Resolution of the City,provided that such <br /> employee shall be assigned such salary step upon the commencement of their service in said <br /> classification and such assignment having once been made shall remain in effect until the <br /> said employee shall be entitled to advance to the next salary step in accordance with the <br /> further provisions of the Article. <br /> An employee appointed to one of the designated non-sworn (CaIPERS "Miscellaneous") <br /> classifications of employment listed in this MOU maybe placed by the appointing authority <br /> at Step "AA", Step "A", Step "B", or Step "C" within the applicable salary rate range as <br /> provided above. <br /> 4.7 Service. The word"service"as used in this MOU shall be deemed to mean continuous,full- <br /> time service in the classification in which the employee is being considered for salary <br /> advancement,service in a higher classification,or service in a classification allocated to the <br /> same salary rate range and having generally similar duties and requirements. Employees <br /> hired after the first (P9 working day of a pay period shall not be credited with "time in <br /> service" for that pay period when determining the length of service required for salary step <br /> advancement. A lapse of service by an employee for a period of time longer than ten (10) <br /> calendar days by reason of resignation, quit, or discharge, shall serve to eliminate the <br /> accumulated length of service time of such employee for the purpose of this MOU and any <br /> such employee reentering the service of the City shall be considered as a new employee, <br /> except that they may be reemployed within two(2)years and placed in the same salary step <br /> in the appropriate salary rate as they were at the time of termination of employment. <br /> "Resignation,quit,or discharge"for purposes of this section shall mean leaving City service <br /> altogether and not movement within City employment by way of transfer, promotion, or <br /> demotion between and among any City departments, <br /> 4.8 Advancement Within Ran es. The following regulations shall govern salary advancement <br /> within rate ranges: <br /> A. For any employee who has been initially appointed to a step lower than Step "E," <br /> advancement to the next higher step(Step"A"from Step"AA,"Step"B"from Step <br /> "A," Step "C" from Step"B," Step"D" from Step"C,"or Step"E" from Step"D" <br /> respectively)shall be granted for continued satisfactory and efficient service by said <br /> employee in the effective performance of the duties of their position. The effective <br /> date of step increases, if granted, shall be the first (V5 day of the pay period <br /> following completion of one(1)year of service at the step to which said employee is <br /> being advanced. <br /> 8 <br />
