b. A "family member"means any of the following: <br /> • A child,which for purposes of this article means a biological,adopted, <br /> or foster child, stepchild, legal ward, or a child to whom the employee <br /> stands in loco parentis. This definition of a child is applicable <br /> regardless of age or dependency status. <br /> • A biological, adoptive, or foster parent, stepparent, or legal guardian <br /> of an employee or the employee's spouse or registered domestic <br /> partner, or a person who stood in loco parentis when the employee <br /> was a minor child. <br /> • A spouse <br /> • A registered domestic partner <br /> • A grandparent <br /> • A grandchild <br /> • A sibling <br /> • It can also be used for a"designated person". A"designated person" <br /> is a person identified by the employee at the time they request sick <br /> leave. An employee may designate one (1) person per twelve (12) <br /> month period. <br /> c. A"household member" means: <br /> Any member of the employees' household related by blood or marriage; <br /> any other relative of the employee by blood or marriage, where it can be <br /> established by the employee that the employee's presence is required to <br /> handle emergency arrangements and/or other matters. <br /> 2. Personal necessity leave may also be used, as follows: <br /> • To attend to a serious accident to members of the employee's <br /> immediate family <br /> • Childbirth <br /> • To cope with imminent danger to the employee's family, home, or <br /> other valuable property <br /> • When the existence of external circumstances beyond the employee's <br /> control make it impossible for them to report for duty <br /> • Attend to medical or dental appointments for members of the <br /> employee's household or family member as defined above. <br /> 2025 MOU City of Santa Ana&SEIU Full-Time Employees Unit Page 51 <br />
