Include design, materials, condition, alterations, size, setting, and boundaries) <br />Located on a corner parcel in the Wilshire Square neighborhood, the Joy House consists of a one-story, single-family <br />residence and detached garage constructed in the Minimal Traditional style (Figure 1). The parcel is bounded on the west by <br />Birch Street and on the north by West Borchard Avenue. The residence is L-planned, with exterior walls sheathed in <br />horizontal plank siding and stucco and a principally gable —on -hip roof clad in asphalt shingles. The open, moderately wide <br />roof overhangs include exposed rafters with rounded ends (Figure 2). Facing South Birch Street to the west, the <br />asymmetrical main fagade is characterized by its recessed front porch (Figure 3), which includes a north -facing glazed wood <br />front door (Figure 4) and paired 2-over-2 wood -sash double -hung windows situated under the main slope of the roof.
