0512 Hours: <br />Orange County D.A. Investigator Supervisor B. Tanner provided a briefing to the assembled personnel. <br />On 11/04/20 at approximately 0135 hours, Santa Ana Police Correctional Officers discovered an inmate <br />unresponsive in his cell.Correctional Officers contacted Orange County Fire Authority for assistance and <br />subsequently transported the inmate to Orange County Global Medical Center where he was pronounced <br />deceased. <br />The inmate, , was the sole occupant of the cell. was a Bureau of Prisons inmate <br />and his stay began on 7/06/20. was scheduled to be released sometime in March of 2021. <br />At the conclusion of the briefing, I walked to the Santa Ana Jail with Homicide and OCDA personnel. <br />0530 Hours: <br />I entered the Santa Ana Jail and was escorted to the 3rd floor housing area. <br />0534 Hours: <br />I checked in with the scene scribe, Officer K. Gray #3412. <br />0547 Hours: <br />Santa Ana Police Sergeant J. Garcia #3030 provided a briefing of the known circumstances.On 11/04/20 <br />at approximately 0135 hours, Santa Ana Police Correctional Officer C. Fernandez #3142 was conducting a <br />cell check of MOD 3D.During her check, she discovered inmate unresponsive inside cell <br />D24. .Correctional Officer Fernandez called for assistance and life <br />saving measures were administered.Orange County Fire Authority (Engine 71) responded, took over life <br />saving measures and transported to Orange County Global Medical Center.Medical staff at the <br />hospital pronounced deceased at 0215 hours. <br />Correctional Officer M. Valenzuela #2748 was the last to conduct a cell check at 0104 hours. <br /> was a Bureau of Prisons inmate who was schedule to be released in March of 2021. <br /> <br /> <br />0602 Hours: <br />I walked the scene and viewed the cell was in, D24.OCDA Investigator T. Toth and I were assigned <br />as the case agents. <br />0616 Hours: <br />I checked out of the crime scene and walked to the Santa Ana Police Department with Investigator Toth. <br />We responded to the Professional Standards conference room located on the 4th floor of the Police building <br />for Officer processing. <br />0758 Hours: <br />OCDA Investigator Toth, Orange County Crime Lab Forensic Specialist B. Doretti #5096, SAPD Sgt. J. <br />Aceves #2611, SAPD Cpl. S. Esquivel #3295, and SAPD Correctional Officer C. <br />Fernandez were present. <br />Correctional Officer Fernandez was wearing her issued 5.11 style duty police uniform.Her long sleeved <br />shirt has Santa Ana Police patches on each shoulder, badge and nametag pinned to the front of her <br />uniform.Correctional Officer Fernandez was wearing a black nylon Sam Browne belt.The items on her <br />belt are as follows in a counter clockwise order: <br />Santa Ana PD 2020-23197 4 of 5
